| My new home...Beantown!!! |
I made a big move…to Boston. I am a southerner from Virginia trying to survive in the north. I graduated from James Madison University (JMU) in Virginia in May 2011 and started a new job in November 2011. Budgeting has turned into a necessity, due to my sudden realization that I will be dirt poor if I don’t get my life together and stop spending money. I am discovering that my after work activities are becoming pretty expensive (bar hopping, drinking, touristy things, ect.), but most importantly, I must wean myself off of my most beloved hobby- shopping. I love to walk around and peruse TJ Maxx, Marshalls, and the infamous Newbury Street, but I’ll be the first to admit: I have a problem. As my realizations of growing up increase, so does my need to budget, which leaves me to some of the reasons I am starting this blog…
1. As mentioned before, my favorite hobby is shopping. That is getting too expensive, therefore, I plan on making weekly blogging my new hobby. Instead of pounding pavement toward the department stores every Saturday, I’ll be heading toward a nearby Starbucks (because it has free internet, and I am roughing it without internet access at home).
2. Budgeting for dinner and packed lunches to take to work isn’t easy. It isn’t like college where I can swipe my meal plan if I don’t plan accordingly, so I have to plan my meals every Sunday (and make enough for dinner so that I can have leftovers for lunch!). Be on the lookout for my favorite weekly picks!
3. Being from Virginia, I am encountering new obstacles, such as public transportation. The humor that will arise from awkward situations with subway attendants and riding the T (Boston’s metro system) must be shared with the world.
4. I can’t afford cable.
5. And finally, moving to Boston and being a recent graduate, this time proves to be one of the most exciting in my life (so I hear) and it deserves to be documented. Not only will I get to share stories for ya’ll, but I will be able to preserve my memories. Personally, it will be a way for me to gain perspective on future situations!
Enjoy!
